Cumulonimbus towers started going up during the mid-morning as we drove from Gallup, New Mexico to Bluff, Utah. We approached this thunderstorm from behind shortly before lunchtime. As we drove under the storm, we got very heavy rain and some small hail. Soon, we were driving out in front of the storm. There were some very large dust devils that extended almost, if not all the way into the cloud base. The dust devils were moving rapidly along an outflow boundary.
